Peter Faust Dam, also known as Lake Proserpine, is a tranquil and scenic destination nestled in Queensland’s Whitsunday hinterland.
The dam is just a short 20 minute drive from Proserpine and is easily accessible by car with fully-sealed roads leading right to the water’s edge. The journey offers picturesque views of cane fields and rolling hills, making the drive a pleasant experience in itself.
[Please be careful of wildlife on your drive. Luke’s wife Kelly is a Wildlife Carer (bird speciliast) with our local Fauna Rescue Whitsundays, and too often sees first hand the impact of increased traffic in the region! Note: if you see injured wildlife, please call our 24 hour hotline on +61749473389]
Coming from Airlie Beach, you should allocate 45 mins for the trip. Be wary of using Apple Maps which might take you on dirt/unsealed roads. Your easiest journey should take you through Proserpine. From Proserpine the dam is in a straight line with no turns along Faust Street which becomes Crystalbrook Road, and eventually Station Road. Keep driving until you get there!
See the map below as well as a couple of interest points in Proserpine itself if you want to stock up on drinks and snacks in the early hours!
